Though it’s still a ways away, casting on Blumhouse’s Halloween sequel is beginning to heat up.
Last month, for instance, we learned that Andi Matichak had clinched the role of Laurie Strode’s granddaughter, Allyson. That casting coup paves the way for a multi-generational story – a first for the Halloween series – given Jamie Lee Curtis and Judy Greer are primed to play Laurie and Karen Strode, respectively.
It’s shaping up to be a family reunion, then, but of course, there’s also the supporting cast to consider. And now, with production officially underway in Charleston, South Carolina, four more actors have boarded the project. Virginia “Ginny” Gardner (Project Almanac), Miles Robbins (Mozart in the Jungle, My Friend Dahmer), Dylan Arnold (Mudbound, Laggies, When We Rise) and Drew Scheid (Stranger Things, The War with Grandpa) have all joined Halloween, and while details on their roles are vague, we do know that they’ll be playing Allyson’s friends.
That’s all we’ve really got to go on at the moment, but again, production kicked off today, which means the next few months should see a ton of fresh info about this new chapter in the iconic franchise begin to emerge. And we couldn’t be more excited. While recent entries may not have been particularly great, we’re feeling confident so far about what David Gordon Green and Danny McBride have cooked up here.
From what we’ve been told already, their take will be a faithful, horror-oriented sequel that picks up exactly where the John Carpenter classic left off – albeit with some changes to the original’s ending. That means Green and Co. have chosen to retcon the entire Halloween saga, a decision which has left many of its alumni (see: Danielle Harris) bitterly disappointed.
Whether that’ll end up being the right choice remains to be seen, but here’s what McBride had to say about it in a recent interview:
“It picks up after the first one, but it’s sort of an alternate reality. It’s as if the first film ended in a slightly different way.”
Pegged to arrive on October 19th, 2018, the Halloween sequel has got just about everyone excited for Michael Myers’ second coming and with production now in full swing, we can’t wait to learn more about what’s in store.
