If it wasn’t for the sudden dismissal of Phil Lord and Chris Miller, we may have already received some form of status report regarding Lucasfilm’s Han Solo spinoff by now.
That’s not to say the Star Wars anthology pic was outright delayed; thanks to the swift appointment of the Oscar-winning Ron Howard, the Han Solo origin movie was back on track before the galaxy’s greatest smuggler could pull off his famous Kessel Run.
Fast forward to now, and a new report unearthed by Cinelinx (via Screen Rant) claims that not only is Lucasfilm in possession of a trailer cut (it’s “floating around,” apparently), but the Powers That Be are also preparing to announce the film’s official title sooner rather than later. Last we reported, “Solo” was said to be the placeholder, though we imagine Lucasfilm’s creative players, along with the newly-appointed Ron Howard, have come up with something a little bit more memorable than a simple surname. Stay tuned for more on that front.
The real question is when can we expect to clock eyes on that all-important first teaser? Common logic points to a possible reveal shortly before Star Wars: The Last Jedi in two months’ time – not unlike how Avengers: Infinity War is set to debut footage in front of Thor: Ragnarok – before Lucasfilm begins drafting up plans for the Han Solo trailer to screen in theaters, when every Star Wars fan worth their salt will be flocking to the nearest theater to catch The Last Jedi on the big, big screen.
As for Han Solo, well, there’s still a long way to go before Ron Howard’s spinoff will have its time in the spotlight. Lucasfilm clearly nixed any production woes before they could get out of hand, and if nothing else, Howard and his team can look to Rogue One as a textbook example of course-correcting a troubled titan.
Smuggler. Scoundrel. Hero? A new Star Wars Story begins on May 25th, 2018, and it’ll chronicle the origins of the great Han Solo.
