First Look At Harrison Ford In Ender’s Game

Harrison Ford was once the highest-grossing movie star of all-time. Yes, so popular was Ford in his heyday, that all he had to do was sign on to play a character called Jack in a movie about trying to get back either his wife or family, and the box receipts would come rolling in. Recently, though, the grizzled grump of an actor has had a tough time in Hollywood, what with an entire decade of middling films and an ill-judged sequel that should never have been made in the first place. Is Ender's Game the movie that will put old Ford back in touch with audiences?

Harrison Ford was once the highest-grossing movie star of all-time. Yes, so popular was Ford in his heyday, that all he had to do was sign on to play a character called Jack in a movie about trying to get back either his wife or family, and the box receipts would come rolling in. Recently, though, the grizzled grump of an actor has had a tough time in Hollywood, what with an entire decade of middling films and an ill-judged sequel that should have never been made in the first place. Is Ender’s Game the movie that will put old Ford back in touch with audiences?

For Ender’s Game, Ford is set to play the mean-spirited Colonel Graff, a man who will presumably bark orders at space cadets and resort to “doing things the old-fashioned way” before eventually becoming a dedicated mentor to the talented Ender (played by Asa Butterfield). You can check out the first image of Ford on what looks like a rejected set from The Hunger Games below. We’ll say, at first glance, it’s nice to see Ford back within the confines of a genre he helped define, what with all that Blade Runner and Star Wars stuff he did a long, long time ago in a career far, far away.

Ender’s Game – based on a novel by Orson Scott Card – is set to be helmed by Tsotsi director Gavin Hood, who comes off the back of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Though that doesn’t exactly bode well for this film, given that that particular Marvel entry was a load of old tosh, we’re hoping that – for Ford’s sake, at least – this thing turns out okay. Abigail Breslin, Hailee Steinfeld, Ben Kingsley and Viola Davis will also join Ford for the adaptation, casting that confirms there’s a lot of talent involved in this thing, and that Harrison Ford’s acting will look bad and dated in comparison.

Ender’s Game blasts its way into theatres on November 1st, 2013.
