Lucasfilm and Disney are currently hard at work on the upcoming Han Solo Anthology movie, which is due to hit theatres on May 25th, 2018. We don’t really know very much about it just yet, but apparently over 2,500 actors have auditioned for the lead role in the Star Wars spinoff and the studios are close to finding their man.
One person who won’t be involved in the film though is Harrison Ford, who revealed in a recent interview that despite making Han Solo one of the most iconic characters of all-time, he won’t be participating in the production of the spinoff.
While doing press for a little film called Star Wars: The Force Awakens, he was asked who he’d like to see nab the part. Here’s what he had to say:
“I don’t think it’s about being like me, it’s about us being like Han Solo. So I’m sure whoever is responsible for that film, and I’m not, will think through the issues and problems of doing such a thing … Let’s make them responsible for those questions you might think to ask me because I’m not involved.”
Of course, given that this is a prequel film and Han will be in his mid-twenties, there’s really no way Ford could have reprised the role. Still, you’d think he would have wanted to be involved in some capacity, even if it was just behind the scenes. Apparently not, though. In fact, we don’t even know if Ford will be around after Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
A lot of people think that Han, Luke and Leia are only going to be in the first instalment of this new trilogy and after that, the films will focus entirely on the new characters. It makes sense, too, but of course, everything is up in the air right now. No one really knows anything for sure and until December 18th, we’re just going to have to keep speculating.
