With casting in full swing for Adam McKay’s Anchorman: The Legend Continues, we now have one more name to add to the growing list of familiar faces that will be appearing the sequel to Paramount’s hit comedy. Harrison Ford has joined the cast today and will play a “legendary newscaster a la Tom Brokaw,” which shouldn’t be too much of a stretch for the actor seeing as he’s already played an anchorman in the film Morning Glory.
Ford will join Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Christina Applegate, David Koechner, Kristen Wiig, John C. Reilly and James Marsden in what is shaping up to be a very, very impressive cast. Seriously, Paramount is really going all out with this one.
Though plot details are still being kept under wraps, we do know that the sequel will catch up with the gang a few years after the end of the original, in a time when the 24-hour news cycle is being introduced. We also know that there will be a number of musical numbers included in the film, as well as what will surely be an ample amount of celebrity cameos.
When it comes to Harrison Ford, most of the news surrounding him lately is, of course, in relation to the upcoming Star Wars film. But hey, as he waits for J.J. Abrams to finish developing that project, why not join a sure to be successful comedy like this?
Though he’s hardly known for his comedic side, and is mostly an action/sci-fi star, Ford can still be funny when he chooses and if he’s playing a newscaster in the vein of Tom Brokaw, I think he’ll be able to deliver a solid performance. Admittedly, he did have me laughing a few times in Morning Glory, in which he played a similar role. In fact, the more I think about it, the prospect of Ford in this film actually seems quite promising.
Anchorman: The Legend Continues will land in theatres on December 20th, 2013. What do you think of Harrison Ford joining the cast?
