Awesome Mix Vol. 2 may be on everyone’s radar going into the launch of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – and rightly so, with James Gunn promising a more diverse soundtrack – but the writer-director has taken to Facebook today to offer up an early sample from the sequel’s official score.
Recorded at London’s famous Abbey Road Studios, Gunn is joined by Tyler Bates, the composer that worked on both Guardians 2 and its barnstorming predecessor. Following a brief introduction, the four-minute clip then pans down to the orchestra below, and it’s here that you’ll be able to get an early taste of what to expect from James Gunn’s sequel in the audio department.
It’s a suitably rousing theme, but exactly where this sample fits into the movie is really anyone’s guess. An early establishing shot, perhaps? Or will it feature in a more emotional scene featuring Star-Lord and the rest of the gang? Time will tell.
Per Facebook:
Reuniting Marvel’s interstellar bandits – namely Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Chris Pratt and Dave Bautista – Guardians 2 has made room in its ranks for a host of newcomers, including Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell as Papa Quill. That makes for quite the ensemble cast, and all signs point to James Gunn’s sequel kicking off Marvel’s 2017 slate on a high-note in a few months’ time.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is due to arrive for those in the States on May 5th and is the first of three Marvel movies penciled in for 2017. The second is, of course, Spider-Man: Homecoming, a standalone pic that heralds Tom Holland’s first title role as Spidey. It’ll swing into theaters on July 7th, before Thor: Ragnarok caps off Marvel’s offerings for the year with a galactic bang on November 3rd.
