HBO Max may have a different name now, but rest assured, one thing stays the same

Some things never change.

HBO Max is now in the dust, replaced by a new name, a new color scheme, and a brand-new app. Among the many changes, though, and to users’ great displeasure, a key aspect remains the exact same — the technical difficulties.

Today marks the official rebrand of HBO Max into simply Max, and subscribers of the service have been getting notifications to remind them of the swap. Naturally, the company wouldn’t want anyone to forget the much-dreaded occasion. However, it looks like things aren’t going exactly to plan, as some users are being met with error messages when they open the new app.

These technical issues certainly aren’t something users want to see when trying to sign in on any platform, let alone a completely new one that is supposed to improve on what they already had. People were already upset enough about the rebrand and having to download a new app, so this may very well be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

In fairness, though, HBO Max subscribers claim that the old app worked just as poorly, so this shouldn’t be much of a letdown. At least, there’s some conform to be found in the familiarity of being unable to access the shows and movies you paid for. And who wouldn’t want that, in this turbulent time?

One could argue that this swap overwhelming the system was to be expected, but that does nothing to contain users’ frustrations, especially considering how long Max had to prepare for the big day and how much advertising went into it.

The situation only adds to the confusion regarding the subject of account transfer, with users not really sure what needs to be done in order to start streaming.

Max wanted a new era and here it is, in its disastrous glory.
