What’s next for Henry Cavill?
That’s the million-dollar question currently ricocheting off the walls of the Internet, after it was confirmed that the actor would no longer be playing the part of Clark Kent/Superman for Warner Bros. and DC Films.
The parent company has since released an official statement about the whole ordeal, though it’s riddled with PR speak and is therefore difficult to parse beyond the fact that Warner has “always had great respect for and a great relationship with Henry Cavill, and that remains unchanged.” That tells us nothing.
Regardless, it seems the studio was the one to cut ties with Henry Cavill due to The Witcher series that’s about to burst into life at Netflix, and the fact that Supergirl will soon be taking priority in a post-Justice League world. But the question remains: what’s next for Henry Cavill? Well, one possible scenario would be casting Cavill in the long-rumored Captain Britain movie…
We should stress that neither Marvel Studios nor Kevin Feige have openly confirmed plans for a Captain Britain film. It’s simply that one comic book movie project that’s always found itself perched on the Hollywood fringes, desperate for some sort of lifeline or tangible status update.
Could Henry Cavill be the one to take flight as Captain Britain, the MCU’s new costumed crusader? Who knows. Last we reported, British filmmaker Guy Ritchie (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword) was rumored to be on Marvel’s wishlist, though we’ve yet to hear any update on that front as of yet.
So at least for now, the role of Brian Braddock remains vacant – ditto for Superman – but you’d be hard-pressed to find another actor better suited to the role than Henry Cavill. Your move, Marvel.
