As the internet continues to lose its collective mind over the reported departure of Henry Cavill from the role of Superman, the actor’s agent has entered the conversation with the suggestion that our response may have been a little premature.
Though Man of Steel 2 has rarely seemed so far away, Dany Garcia has taken to Twitter to clarify that Cavill isn’t necessarily out of the DC game quite yet:
“Be peaceful, the cape is still in his closet. @wbpictures has been and continues to be our partners as they evolve the DC Universe. Anticipate a WB statement later today.”
This is shaping up to be a pretty crazy day for the DC fanbase, and apparently it isn’t over yet. While things feel very up in the air right now, it’s pretty clear that Warner Bros. are planning a change in direction for the DCEU after several divisive projects. And with Cavill’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice co-star also reported to be leaving the franchise, it certainly feels like the shaky first era of this cinematic universe is coming to a close.
While Cavill’s three Superman movies weren’t met with the best of responses, some viewers may appreciate the familiar face as the Worlds of DC undergoes its necessary evolution. But if Cavill’s no longer on board, then you can bet that Warner will still find ways to take advantage of the star power of Superman himself, even if that means replacing the actor with, say, Michael B. Jordan.
In any case, we await further word from Warner Bros. to potentially find out if Cavill or Man of Steel 2 have any place in DC’s future. But either way, the franchise still has a busy road ahead of it, with Aquaman hitting theaters December 21st, 2018, and Shazam! out on April 5th, 2019, followed by Wonder Woman 1984 on November 1st.
