It Could Mean That Batman Is Being Recast, Too
Trust us, if they’re thinking of a “soft” reboot in terms of the Harlequin of the Hate, they’ll do the same with Batman. There’s a bigger reason for this film than a “oh, hey, it’ll be cool to do a Joker origin film without Jared Leto but with an actor who looks no older than 25 and could still play a much younger Clown Prince of Crime.” Something else is up. Something much bigger than what we’re being told.
With the never-ending buzz that Ben Affleck is out and now this, we’re starting to think there might be truth to the rumors. Just recently, Matt Reeves was quoted as saying The Batman isn’t necessarily a part of the DCEU and that can only mean one thing: new Batsy, baby. What we’re thinking might happen here is that Affleck will step away and possibly return for the next Justice League film down the line, while a newer actor will carry the “other” franchise going forward.
Look, we can only speculate if this is the case, but the signs are telling. We won’t lie and say we’re thrilled about this, since we’re big Batfleck fans, but this does seem like the direction that it’s going. It’s pretty sad to think that we’re unlikely to see Ben’s Bat smash out Jared’s Joker’s teeth in all its cinematic glory. Oh, how the comic book gods have failed us!
