It’s less than a month before we are treated to Pixar’s first original film in three years with the medieval-set, action drama Brave. But in the meantime, thanks to an interview from the L.A. Times, we have some hints about their upcoming entry The Good Dinosaur.

Currently set for a May 30th release in 2014, The Good Dinosaur will be unleashed after 2013’s Monster’s Inc. prequel, Monster’s University and prior to other rumoured films: one “about the inside of a girl’s mind” and another centered on the Mexican holiday Dia de los Mortos.

Previous revealed plot details point to an alternative reality where the infamous asteroid never struck Earth and humans and giant reptiles co-exist in some capacity.  In this particular interview the official synopsis is not discussed but they did reveal some other interesting snippets of information.

Director’s Bob Peterson and Peter Sohn (directors of short film Partly Cloudy) and the film’s producer, John Walker (The Incredibles) had this to say about their underlying inspiration for the film:

“It’s time to do a movie where you get to know the dinosaur, what it’s really like to be a dinosaur and to be with a dinosaur. [We are] toying with the idea of what dinosaurs represent today.”

A real world awakening came to Peterson when he took a trip to the World’s Fair as a child and was awed by some of the animatronic dinosaurs on display. Considering their context was no Jurassic Park-style immersion, it is easy to see the connect between dinosaurs and the modern setting, adding: “If there’s a bunch of dinosaurs in a Whole Foods parking lot you’ll understand why.”

I’m sure there will be a slew of news yet to come and as is it does we’ll keep you posted.
