Despite his insistence that a Wolverine/D. Piddy team-up won’t ever happen, or denying he has a cameo in the Merc with a Mouth’s next movie, Hugh Jackman just can’t help getting roped into conversations pertaining to Deadpool 2.
In this instance, he’s paying compliments to the highly anticipated sequel starring Ryan Reynolds, saying this in a video posted on Twitter:
“Okay, alright, I’m gonna say this once and then delete it really quickly. Deadpool 2 is a work of genius, it is epic, it is…Damn it. I can’t believe I said that.”
Just in case Jackman actually does decide to delete the video in question, be sure to check it out below before it possibly vanishes.
Now, it’s hard to tell if Jackman is merely spouting hyperbole, but we highly doubt he’s being overly sarcastic or disingenuous. After all, he is an actor, so it’s not like we can get an accurate read on his comments, though we’re willing to wager he liked what he saw.
That said, it’s nice to see the fan favorite still offering respect toward the X-Men-centric Marvel Universe that Fox has developed. In a way, all of these folks are extended family, and it seems like Wade Wilson is as good of a character to carry the torch in a post-Logan world.
And if Jackman’s endorsement weren’t enough, read these recent comments made by comic book legend Rob Liefeld regarding Deadpool 2‘s scale, likening it to how Aliens upped the ante following Alien:
“You’ll see that the scale is much bigger, and that’s because the first movie had a small $58 million budget. So it was very tight as you only occasionally saw the camera being pulled back a little on the freeway scenes and in a couple of shots at the end. With Deadpool 2, it’s a bit like the difference between Ridley Scott’s original Alien and James Cameron’s Aliens, which was much more action-oriented and also had bigger tech and way more aliens.”
Deadpool 2 opens in theaters on May 18th, and we can hardly wait.
