The most notorious troll of superhero cinema got a taste of his own medicine this holiday season when Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds attended a holiday party with Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal.
The star of Once Upon a Deadpool took to Instagram with a couple of photos alongside the Wolverine and Mysterio actors. But while Jackman and Gyllenhaal are looking pretty pleased with themselves, Reynolds appears a little despondent in his tacky Christmas outfit, and he explains the situation as follows:
“These fucking assholes said it was a sweater party.”
To be fair, Reynolds kind of had it coming, given his fondness for pestering his fellow actors.
Just earlier this month, for example, when Gyllenhaal took to Instagram for the very first time to share his epiphany that he’s “not playing Spider-Man” in next year’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, Reynolds was among the stars who mocked him for him for the comment.
Of course, the one Reynolds really has a history with is Jackman. The Logan lead’s refusal to reprise his role as Wolverine for a Deadpool crossover has been the subject of an ongoing troll war between the pair. So far, Reynolds has yet to convince his old X-Men Origins: Wolverine co-star to come back to the franchise, though it’s clear that a lot of fans and even Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld are on his side.
With the Disney/Fox deal on the horizon, chances are that the next time we see Wolverine on our screens, he’ll be played by a different actor. In the meantime, Reynolds’ Once Upon a Deadpool is still in the midst of a two-week run in cinemas, while Gyllenhaal will be making his MCU debut when Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters on July 5th, 2019.
