While nothing’s come of it yet, Jackman’s online arch-nemesis Ryan Reynolds swooped in to steal the thunder away from his longtime friend and rival by giving Deadpool a surprise MCU debut. The Merc with a Mouth finally showed up as part of the franchise’s roster by pairing up with Taika Waititi’s Korg to offer a breakdown to the latest Free Guy trailer, and it would be fair to say that the internet went nuts.

The video saw Deadpool poke fun at Disney, Marvel, ‘Canadian Cumberbatch’ Reynolds and the multiple release date shuffles endured by the video game-inspired action comedy, but somewhat surprisingly, there was no mention of Jackman at all. The 52 year-old was quick to point that out, leaving an Instagram comment voicing his shock that he was left unscathed, which you can read below.

“Wow! 4:12 and no mention of me. DP your therapy is working!!!”

Deadpool making his first appearance in the MCU in the most self-aware fashion possible was both completely unexpected and not a surprise in the slightest, suiting him down to a tee. When the character still belonged to Fox, his third solo outing was set to be a road trip buddy movie with Jackman’s Wolverine, and while we more than likely won’t be getting that particular storyline, the door is now wide open for Reynolds and Jackman to rekindle their feud under the Marvel and Disney banner.
