Joining the John Wick Four crew made up of veteran and new cast members, award-winning actor McShane closed a deal with Lionsgate to return as Winston. Director Chad Stahelski “couldn’t be happier” about McShane’s return, said Stahelski to Deadline. Playing the antagonist to Wick in John Wick Three: Parabellum, McShane’s character Winston could play an integral role within the fourth chapter.

Winston is the New York Continental Hotel owner within the Wick series, serving as a prominent member of the Continental. McShane brings Winston’s character to life with a mix of charm and complexity. Having served as an executive producer on American Gods in 2019 and starred within the series as the God, Mr. Wednesday, the return of McShane adds a vital missing element to the John Wick Four cast.

“He [McShane] is not only an amazing actor but is an indispensable collaborator who has helped define the world of John Wick,” said Stahelski.

This summer, filming began for John Wick 4, with shooting taking place in France, Germany, and Japan. Starring alongside McShane is a powerhouse of talent that includes Hiroyuki Sanada, Donnie Yen, Shamier Anderson, Rina Sawayama, and Lance Reddick.

McShane’s acting credits date to 1962, including a Golden Globe Award for the HBO series Deadwood, as Al Swearengen. Similar to the John Wick series, McShane reprised that role within the film Deadwood: The Movie, in which he earned two Primetime Emmy nominations.

Scheduled to release on May 27 of 2022, John Wick: Chapter 4 was written by Shay Hatten and Michael Finch. Stahelski returns as director and Reeves as an executive producer.
