Thanks to the sleuthing skills of the folks over at io9 (via Collider), we’ve now got a first proper look at the updated reboot of animated eighties cartoon Jem And The Holograms. Uncovered in the pages of Elle’s March issue, a tiny image has surfaced showing the ladies of the titular band rocking out onstage. This marks the first new glimpse at the movie since the official website launched, showcasing a close-up of all four band members.

Directed by Jon M. Chu, the feature will embrace a similar story to the series as it follows “a small-town girl who is catapulted from underground video sensation to global superstar. She and her three sisters begin a one-in-a-million journey of discovering that some talents are too special to keep hidden.” As part of its modern update, the ‘video sensation’ obviously refers to a viral YouTube hit that transforms the band into a major success.

Nashville‘s Aubrey Peeples leads the movie as the poufy-haired Jem, with her holograms represented by Stefanie Scott as Kimber, Hayley Kiyoko as Aja, and Aurora Perrineau as Shana. On board to add a touch of old school class to the pic are Juliette Lewis and former Brat Packer Molly Ringwald, although the specifics of their roles have yet to be revealed.

Jem and the Holograms is scheduled to arrive in theatres on October 23rd.
