Imogen Poots and Daredevil star Jon Bernthal have plot course for Sweet Virginia, the upcoming thriller in the works from River director Jamie Dagg.
Deadline has the scoop, confirming that the duo will round out a cast that also features Christopher Abbott, Rosemarie DeWitt and Odessa Young. It’s set to hit the ground running, too, entering production on August 27 ahead of a planned theatrical release at some point in 2017.
Story details are few and far between, but the general gist reveals that Sweet Virginia will orbit around a “motel owner with a dark past (Bernthal) who unknowingly starts a rapport with a young hitman (Abbott) responsible for a spate of violence that suddenly has gripped a small town.” Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Chris Ferguson, Fernando Loureiro and Roberto Vasconcellos are among the producers attached to the low-key thriller.
News of Jamie Dagg’s feature beginning to form comes on the eve of Toronto International Film Festival, where XYZ Films will shop the project to international buyers. Enlisting the likes of Abbott, DeWitt, Potts and Bernthal – who will soon headline his own Netflix spinoff for The Punisher – will surely stand Sweet Virginia in good stead going into TIFF 2016, and we’ll be keeping track of the project as it nears production.
