Having established her acting credentials through The Guest and acclaimed indie horror title It Follows, Maika Monroe looks set to hit the blockbuster stratosphere as she has now secured a place in Independence Day 2.
News comes via the horse’s mouth itself, with the sequel’s director Roland Emmerich confirming the casting tidbit via Twitter.
I have another addition to announce. The beautiful & talented Maika Monroe is officially signed on 2 the Independence Day Sequel!

While the filmmaker didn’t divulge the specifics of her role, The Hollywood Reporter writes that Monroe has been cast as ID2‘s female lead, slipping into the shoes of the president’s daughter and, just for good measure, Liam Hemsworth’s potential love interest.
At 21 years of age, Monroe is fast becoming one of Hollywood’s hottest up-and-comers, and after wrangling with otherworldly forces in last year’s atypical horror, the American actress will presumably have her hands full with forces from above, with the aliens travelling through space and time to enact their revenge following the events of the first film all those years ago.
In fact, considering that Independence Day arrived on July 3, 1996, it’ll be interesting to see how the sci-fi sequel tackles the lapse in time. Travelling at the speed of light only gets you so far, so fast, right? Roland Emmerich returns as director and producer alongside Dean Devlin and Harald Kloser.
Independence Day 2 will feature faces both old and new including Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Vivica A. Fox, Travis Tope, Judd Hirsch and Brent Spiner when the long-gestating sequel zooms into Earth’s atmosphere in time for June 24, 2016 – almost exactly two decades after the original.
