Looks like the aliens have their sights set a little higher than the White House this time – the first poster for Independence Day 2 finds that dreaded world-destroying ship about to blast its way to Earth’s core.

A few days back, we got an official synopsis for the blockbuster sequel, which will again be directed by Roland Emmerich, that promises destruction on a planetary scale, and the marketing department evidently saw that and decided to mess around with its poster. Here’s that synopsis again:

After Independence Day redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global catastrophe on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

It certainly seems like Earth might need more than a fast-talking pilot to bring down that mothership this time. Luckily, the tentpole pic has recruited a study cast packed with newcomers to the Independence Day franchise as well as trusty hold-overs from the original. Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Liam Hemsworth, Maika Monroe, Jessie Usher, Chin Han, Garrett Wareing, Joey King, Sela Ward, Brett Spiner, Vivica A. Fox,William Fichtner, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Judd Hirsch all have roles in the pic, which is expected to launch a new string of Independence Day movies for Fox.

Independence Day 2 arrives June 24, 2016.
