It’s been two decades. Two decades on since Roland Emmerich redefined event cinema with the barnstorming release of Independence Day – then viewed as a blockbuster underdog, now held up as a cheesy sci-fi classic – and soon, three weeks from now, the director will stage an almighty reunion with the release of Independence Day: Resurgence.
Much like the marketing campaign that fired ID4 to international success back in ’96, 20th Century Fox is aiming big with Resurgence, with scores of screenshots, trailers and posters of landmarks being blown sky-high already littering the interwebs. Now, in anticipation of the Resurgence IMAX release, a new poster has dropped, this time teeing up a last-ditch uprising against the invading menace.
[zergpaid]If there’s one thing those locust-like extra-terrestrials don’t realize, however, it’s that they’ve messed with the wrong planet and species, and the one-sheet below is a stark reminder of the almighty battle against extinction that humanity faces.
Rallying the troops are the returning faces of Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum and Brent Spiner, with the starry Resurgence cast list also featuring Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Maika Monroe and Sela Ward, along with Jessie Usher and Liam Hemsworth, who take the fight to the extra-terrestrials as two rival pilots under the Earth Space Defense program.
Independence Day: Resurgence will cast an almighty shadow over theaters on June 24.
