Despite the near-universal disappointment that was Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, fans of the beloved adventuring archaeologist are still eager to see a fifth installment in the iconic franchise. That may have seemed like a pipe-dream just a few years ago, but now that Disney owns Lucasfilm, it’s no longer a question of if we’ll see Indiana Jones 5, but when.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has said herself that more films in the franchise are inevitable, and Steven Spielberg seems interested in Chris Pratt donning the iconic fedora – a possibility that seems all the more likely now that Jurassic World has become such a hit at the box office.
[zerg]That success may have reignited Disney’s interest in Indiana Jones, if a new report from Ain’t It Cool News is to be believed. Their “long-time and trustworthy source” claims that another Indy film is indeed coming and that Lucasfilm has pencilled it in for Q4 in 2018. By that time, Disney’s steady stream of Star Wars films will have shifted from winter to summer release dates, leaving a big opportunity in the schedule for Indiana Jones.
Of course, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard rumors that more films in the series are on the horizon, so I’d take this news with a rolling boulder-sized grain of salt until something official is announced. We’ve heard conflicting reports that Disney is both interested in rebooting the franchise with a young actor, and bringing back star Harrison Ford, so if anything’s clear, it’s that nothing is currently set in stone.
Tell us, would you like to see a new Indiana Jones film in 2018? If so, who would you rather don the fedora, Chris Pratt or Harrison Ford? Or, someone else? Let us know in the comments below.
