Insidious: The Last Key, the fourth instalment of Blumhouse’s lucrative horror series, has been a long time coming.
Not unlike Paramount’s scrapped Friday the 13th movie before it, The Last Key was once scheduled to arrive this Halloween, before Blumhouse forfeited its window and left All Hallow’s Eve in the decaying hands of The Jigsaw Killer.
It’s since relocated to January of 2018, and though the first month of any year is typically filled with unwanted sequels and would-be Hollywood flops, we’re beginning to see more and more new releases buck tradition and score big at the box office. Here’s looking at you, Split.
And so, as The Last Key begins to cast a shadow over theaters, Bloody Disgusting has today conjured up the official UK poster for Adam Robitel’s horror sequel. And it’s a doozy.
Featuring a cast comprised of Josh Stewart, Leigh Whannell, Angus Sampson, Kirk Acevedo, Bruce Davison, Spencer Locke and Caitlin Gerard, Insidious: The Last Key flips expectations on their head by journeying into the home of Dr. Elise Rainier, though we still expect a few excursions into the Further for good measure.
Here’s the official logline:
The creative minds behind the hit Insidious trilogy return for Insidious: The Last Key. In the supernatural thriller, which welcomes back franchise standout Lin Shaye as Dr. Elise Rainier, the brilliant parapsychologist faces her most fearsome and personal haunting yet: in her own family home.
Working from a script penned by Leigh Whannell (Saw) – a key architect of Insidious, alongside James Wan and Jason Blum – director Adam Robitel will invite viewers back into the Further once Insidious: The Last Key looms over theaters on January 5th, 2018 – or February 8th, if you happen to live in the United Kingdom.
