Between Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther, the far-flung utopia of Wakanda is about to become Marvel’s playground.
The former just dropped its monumental teaser, and generated a record 230 million views in only 24 hours. That makes it the most-watched trailer of all-time – in the first day of release, that is – which is all the more impressive when you consider that New Line’s It only raised the bar to 197m back in March. Talk about appeasing a pent-up demand.
But perhaps one of the biggest talking points of Infinity War – you know, besides Captain America forgetting to pack a razor – is Wakanda, which looks to play a prominent role in Joe and Anthony Russo’s sequel. However, by the time May 4th rolls around, moviegoers will be overly familiar with Wakanda and the Black Panther hierarchy thanks to Ryan Coogler’s super-sleek spinoff.
Pegged to arrive in February of 2018 – just three short months before the advent of Marvel’s Infinity War – the standalone pic is a truly star-studded affair, and it’ll be anchored by Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa, the man who would be king.
Similar to the vibranium that lines Cap’s trusty shield, Boseman’s suit of armor is practically impenetrable, and though we fully expect T’Challa to receive an upgrade at some point in Black Panther‘s story, a new international poster has scurried online that seemingly depicts the film’s huge South Korea chase sequence. If nothing else, it’s a nice companion piece to the one released earlier in the week, and you can take a closer look at Boseman’s fresh-faced Avenger below.
Directed by Ryan Coogler, Black Panther claws its way into theaters on February 16th, and it looks like Marvel’s latest solo flick has a clear shot at box office glory after its two biggest competitors – namely Pacific Rim: Uprising and The Predator –were pushed into the latter stages of 2018.
