In the weeks before the Deadpool & Wolverine premiere speculation ran wild about which cameos would be in the movie. These ranged from the involvement of King Charles, a surprise appearance from Taylor Swift, to a potential connection to the Avengers.
It was only natural for fans to theorize about one of the year’s most anticipated films, but one theory that garnered a lot of attention was Blake Lively playing Lady Deadpool.
So do we know for sure whether it’ll be Lively who dons the Lady Deadpool suit?
Is Blake Lively Lady Deadpool in Deadpool 3?
While she never takes off her mask, Blake Lively is listed in the film’s credits as Lady Deadpool and confirmed her appearance in a sweet Instagram post, celebrating Lady Deadpool and the film’s existence. When Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld first created Lady Deadpool in 2009, he actually based the character after Lively herself. In a recent Instagram post, he shared that he and his wife never missed an episode of Gossip Girl and were “Team Serena all the way” so making the character in Lively’s image was a given. It’s truly a full circle moment for everyone involved.
Lively’s involvement shouldn’t come as too much of a shock due to her being married to Mr. Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds. Given how many celebrities make a cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine, it probably would be more shocking if she didn’t make an appearance.
In addition to Lively, all four of her and Reynolds’ kids are credited. Nine-year-old James plays a “Screaming Mutant”, seven-year-old Inez plays Kidpool, four-year-old Betty is a “Hugh Jackman wrangler” and one-year-old Olin is Babypool.
It initially wasn’t confirmed whether Lively would appear in Deadpool & Wolverine as Lady Deadpool, but that didn’t stop people from fan-casting her. After a faceless woman donning a Deadpool suit appeared in a trailer and TV spot, it was widely speculated that Lively, the real-life wife of Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds, would be taking on the role.
Though it started as speculation, the blonde-haired woman in the trailer certainly resembled Lively (at least from the face down). Throw in the fact that Reynolds and Lively’s offscreen connection plays into Deadpool’s affinity meta moments and you had a pretty convincing argument that the Gossip Girl star would make a cameo. Turns out, most people were right on the money with their guess.
However, fans also theorized that it might be Taylor Swift in the Lady Deadpool suit, so perhaps we shouldn’t give too much weight to fans’ dream castings. Swift sadly doesn’t star in the film (a missed opportunity, we must confess) but she only had great things to say about the film.
In any case, we congratulate those who guessed correctly that Lively was the woman behind the mask before Deadpool & Wolverine arrived in theaters.
