Two weeks on from Jeff Bridges himself entertaining the idea of a sequel to The Big Lebowski, Birth.Movies.Death has unearthed a fascinating report that suggests John Turturro, who played slick bowler Quintana in Joel and Ethan Coen’s ’98 cult favorite, is pushing on with his own spinoff.

It’s an idea that the actor himself has been mulling over for almost two years at this point, and if today’s report to be believed, his latest directorial effort Going Places – which has Bobby Cannavale, Audrey Tautou and Susan Sarandon set to star – is not actually a remake of 1974 French flick Les Valseuses as once thought.

Seemingly employing a similar trojan horse tactic that worked so well for both 10 Cloverfield Lane and, more recently, Adam Wingard’s Blair Witch sequel, Going Places is masking Turturro’s long-gestating Big Lebowski offshoot that purportedly focuses on “two petty thieves, Turturro’s Jesus and Cannavale’s Petey, compete to give a woman (Tautou) her first orgasm after she’s roped into their hijinks.” Sarandon, meanwhile, plays a woman just out of prison who becomes drawn into the escapade.

There’s no mention of Joel and Ethan Coen being involved in this alleged Big Lebowski continuation and so far as we can tell, the filmmakers aren’t terribly interest in a sequel – “I don’t think we’ll oblige” – so if Turturro is indeed blazing a path of his own, we don’t imagine the Coen brothers will intervene, let alone contribute.

We’ll be keeping tabs on this Big Lebowski follow-up as more news comes to light but for now, tell us, what are your thoughts on this report?
