Deadline is reporting that the female lead role for the upcoming Jack Ryan film has been narrowed down to three lovely ladies: Keira Knightley, Felicity Jones and Evangeline Lilly. Already set to star Chris Pine as the titular CIA analyst, Paramount is looking for a female co-star and apparently, the aforementioned actresses are the three individuals on the shortlist to play Dr. Catherine Muller, who ends up becoming Ryan’s wife.
Apparently, Knightley is the frontrunner but both Jones and Lilly still stand a chance. Furthermore, Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel, who both star in this week’s Total Recall reboot, were also in the mix but are no longer in the running.
Personally, I think Knightley has the most talent out of the three but I have been impressed with Jones lately. I think she shows a ton of potential and I really enjoyed her work in Like Crazy. I’m just not sure if she’s ready for a blockbuster yet. As for Lilly, she’d probably make for the best eye candy but I’ve never really been a fan of her work, despite watching every episode of LOST.
We already have Pine in the lead role, which I’m happy with, and Kenneth Branagh behind the camera as well as in the villain role, which again, I’m fine with. So either way, I don’t think that either of the three actresses will make or break the film. But still, I would like to see Knightley chosen.
What do you guys think? Who would make the best leading lady for the Jack Ryan film?
