The bad boys (and undisputed kings) of the 1980’s Sunset Strip glam metal explosion, Mötley Crüe, will finally have their entire sordid and debauchery-filled story brought to the big screen, as Deadline is reporting today that Jackass: Bad Grandpa helmer Jeff Tremaine is set to direct The Dirt.

Based upon their best selling autobiographical tome, The Dirt – Confessions of the World’s Most Notorious Rock Band (co-written by Neil Strauss), the film will aim to capture all of the outrageous and legendary antics which followed The Crüe from their humble beginnings playing the Whisky on the Sunset Strip to conquering the world and selling out arenas.

Of course, you can expect The Dirt to include all of the drug-fuelled excess, near-death experiences and sex-with-supermodel tales that the band is known for. After all, what story about Mötley Crüe would be complete without such extravagances?

The synopsis provided with the book gives a dizzying glimpse into what it was like to be a member of the (then) biggest group in the world:

Motley Crue was the voice of a barely pubescent Generation X, the anointed high priests of backward-masking pentagram rock, pioneers of Hollywood glam, and the creators of MTV’s first “power ballad.” Their sex lives claimed celebrities from Heather Locklear to Pamela Anderson to Donna D’Errico. Their scuffles involved everyone from Axl Rose to 2LiveCrew. Their hobbies have included collecting automatic weapons, cultivating long arrest records, pushing the envelope of conceivable drug abuse, and dreaming up backstage antics that would make Ozzy Osbourne blanch with modesty.

Tremaine (coming off the success of the latest entry in the Jackass franchise) is an inspired choice to direct and he, along with writer Tom Kapinos, should be able to adapt the novel into something that is a worthy addition to the musical legacy of the Los Angeles-bred hellraisers.

The Dirt is scheduled to shoot early next year and once additional information is revealed, we will be sure to pass it along.
