Director Denis Villeneuve and actor Jake Gyllenhaal just spent the summer together shooting An Enemy. Whatever happened on set it must have been a positive experience as the two will now team up again for Prisoners.
Starring Hugh Jackman and Melissa Leo, Prisoners is a Black List script that revolves around a “small-town carpenter named Keller (Jackman) whose young daughter and best friend are kidnapped. After the cops fail to find them, Keller takes the law into his own hands, but in the process runs up against the big city detective assigned to the case.”
As for Gyllenhaal’s role, no word yet on who he’ll play but I’m sure it will be one of the central characters. With production set to get underway in early 2013, and a release date in the same year, expect to hear more news on this one in the near future.
Prisoners definitely sounds like a promising film and now with Jake Gyllenhaal on board, things are looking even brighter. If all goes well, perhaps we’ll be seeing Villeneuve and Gyllenhaal teaming up for a third effort.
Has the French Canadian director found his muse? It certainly looks like it. And if that is the case, then I have no complaints. Villeneuve and Gyllenhaal are great filmmakers and I’m sure that both An Enemy and Prisoners will turn out well.
