It’s been a while since Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass left the Bourne franchise to pursue other projects, but Universal still feel more can be gotten from the franchise. Of course Tony Gilroy, who had a hand in writing all 3 other Bourne movies, has been signed to write and direct (he did a good job directing Oscar baiter Michael Clayton) and now after writing the script he’s looking for actors for The Bourne Legacy.
As we know, the film won’t contain Jason Bourne, it will be, in Gilroy’s words, “a completely original screenplay” and he’s got an interesting list of actors as contenders for this role. Deadline announce they are Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire, Paul Dano, Michael Pitt, Joel Edgerton, Oscar Isaac, Garrett Hedlund, Michael Fassbender, Luke Evans, Alex Pettyfer, Taylor Kitsch, Benjamin Walker, Josh Harnett. Some of them have already met with Gilroy and some are just in running, this list is expected to be whittled down soon and depending on whose suitable, schedules have to be worked out.
Some names are good signs, some not so much. But expect more news on this very soon.
