When I first heard of Let’s Be Cops, it was because I was being invited to a set visit by 20th Century Fox. Admittedly, at the time, I didn’t think that it would be anything more than a typical summer comedy with some recycled jokes and a few recognizable TV stars. Then, the first red-band trailer hit and I have to say, I’m kind of looking forward to it now. And honestly, I think most people feel the same way. It’s still a bit too early to tell, but Let’s Be Cops could be the surprise comedy hit of the summer.
Starring New Girl‘s Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr., the film follows the duo as they pretend to be real cops at a costume party one night. Enjoying all the attention they get while dressed as police, they keep up the gig but soon find themselves in over their head with mob bosses and dirty detectives. It’s a simple premise, but one that could work out very well if the footage we’ve seen so far is any indication.
We already know that Johnson and Wayans Jr. can work well together on screen, as evidenced by their hit TV show, and their chemistry looks like it will carry over here perfectly. The film is really resting on their shoulders, but I think that they’re more than capable of carrying it.
Today, JoBlo premiered a new poster for the film, which shows off the two stars along with the tagline, “Fake Cops. Real Trouble.” It’s nothing spectacular, but it gets the job done and definitely has me excited for what I think might be a very funny ride. Of course, there’s still a good chance that Let’s Be Cops will turn out to be another dumb comedy with lame jokes and tired material, but for now, I’m going to remain optimistic.
Let’s Be Cops will storm into theatres on August 13th, 2014. Check out the poster and plot summary below and let us know what you think.
It’s the ultimate buddy cop movie except for one thing: they’re not cops. When two struggling pals dress as police officers for a costume party, they become neighborhood sensations. But when these newly-minted “heroes” get tangled in a real life web of mobsters and dirty detectives, they must put their fake badges on the line.
