Director James Bobin, who found success with The Muppets, may have another big film on his hands in the near future. While he's currently working on The Muppets...Again!, (which may be nominated for the "Worst movie title...ever!"), Variety is reporting that he may be directing Into The Looking Glass aka the Alice In Wonderland sequel. Director James Bobin, who found success with The Muppets, may have another big film on his hands in the near future. While he’s currently working on The Muppets…Again!, (which could be nominated for the “Worst movie title…ever!”), Variety is reporting that he may be directing Into The Looking Glass aka the Alice In Wonderland sequel. Linda Woolverton is back to script the film and Mia Wasikowska and Johnny Depp are expected to reprise their roles.

Personally, I hated Alice in Wonderland, but it seems like not many others agreed with me as it went on to gross over $1 billion at the worldwide box office. It also did receive some Oscar noms in the technical categories which it did, admittedly, deserve.

Details on the sequel are scarce but without Burton in the director’s seat, I’m a bit more optimistic. Hopefully Disney can right what went wrong in the first film and seeing as they’ve started with getting rid of Tim Burton, I think they’re taking a step in the right direction. Don’t get me wrong, he’s not a bad director by any means, but I do think that a lot of the film’s flaws were due to him and some of the choices he made.

It will be interesting to see someone like Bobin step into a production like this. I enjoyed his work in The Muppets and Disney wouldn’t trust him with such a big property unless they had full faith in him. Now, he’s not 100% confirmed just yet. Apparently, Bobbin still has to get the “OK” from Johnny Depp, who is pretty much guaranteed to return. If Bobbin and Depp hit it off though, expect him to sign on and make things official.
