News on Avatar 2 has been pretty tough to come by recently. Director James Cameron is busy working on adding 3D to his Best Picture winner Titanic and he’s also still working on the scripts for Avatar 2 and 3.
This week though, Sigourney Weaver, who starred in the first film and will be returning for the second, told us a bit about the sequel and explained how Cameron is looking for a new submarine.
Speaking to Bad Taste, Weaver said the following:
“Cameron will only begin filming the new Avatars after having gone underwater in a specially built submarine. It is thought that he would like to go to the Mariana Trench. Re-beginning work on Titanic for the 3D version has also given him many inspirations for Avatar.”
Cameron has been known to use submarines for filming in the past (Titanic, Ghosts of the Abyss and Aliens of the Deep). But, according to Weaver, he’s going to need something more advanced for Avatar 2. Afterall, going to the Mariana Trench (the deepest part of the world’s ocean) is quite a feat.
With all that in mind, I think it’s safe to say that the underwater portions of Pandora that will be explored in Avatar 2 are going to be pretty spectacular and once again we’ll be in for a visual treat.
