Even though he’s technically got much more free time on his hands than he has in years now that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is playing in theaters to extricate him from a long and fruitful association with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, James Gunn might be better off spending a little less time on Twitter.
Rumor and speculation has been part and parcel of the comic book genre ever since the boom initially began over 20 years ago, but there isn’t a filmmaker in the industry who debunks whispers and hearsay anywhere near as often as the current co-CEO of DC Studios, who seems to derive great pleasure from telling people they’re roughly a million miles wide of the mark.
However, pouring cold water on a fabrication made by a parody account potentially underlines the danger of Gunn’s itchy Twitter finger barely remaining in its holster for more than a hot second, because it was abundantly obvious from the outset that there wasn’t a shred of truth to social media musician Orchestra Eclipse being tasked to cobble together the score for Superman: Legacy.
Of course, the major takeaway is that Gunn has confirmed the launchpad for the DCU’s next rebirth has hired someone to create the orchestral accompaniment, which is fairly big news in and of itself. Of course, he wouldn’t be drawn on their identity, but we do at least know they’re out there somewhere, waiting in the wings to be unveiled to the world at a later date.
With that in mind, folks will no doubt be combing through Gunn’s filmography to see which names come up more than once.
