There’s a reasonable school of thought that questions why James Gunn spends so much of his time debunking rumors regarding his upcoming slate of projects on social media, which has become increasingly time consuming ever since he assumed control of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran.
While the occasional filmmaker does pop up from time to time to pour cold water on unfounded scuttlebutt, the Guardians of the Galaxy director will be lucky if he makes it through an entire day without addressing the peddling of falsehoods on his timeline. Yesterday was a doozy in particular, which kicked off when he addressed the chatter that YouTubers RackaRacka had outright rejected the chance to helm a DC project.
From there, a secondary wave of rumor-mongering followed, and while the filmmaker-turned-executive handled it gracefully, the sense was beginning to creep in that his patience was reaching its end.
From there, Gunn finally let exasperation take over after yet another slab of hearsay was launched in his direction, and it’s definitely worth noticing that this particular tidbit focused specifically on his longtime friend Zachary Levi, who may not have a future in the DCU coming off one of the biggest bombs the entire superhero genre has ever seen.
The best idea would be for Gunn to cool his jets and maybe not indulge everyone who spams his Twitter feed with nonsensical gossip, but seeing as he actively enjoys his regular bouts of debunking, it’s best not to hold your breath for it happening.
