‘Batfleck’ continues to trend as fans mourn the Snyderverse

Do we really need the Affleck character fleshed out?

Fans have not been quiet in their pleas to James Gunn for the future of the DCU, and they have begun to ask for Ben Affleck’s Batman movie once more.

Since becoming one of the heads of the DC Universe, James Gunn has been busy with the director reportedly canceling Wonder Woman 3 and ending Jason Momoa’s tenure as Aquaman. Fans of the Snyderverse which Zack Snyder crafted have been clinging to anything they have left as a result and are taking to social media to demand a Ben Affleck-led Batman solo movie, with #MakeTheBatfleckMovie trending on Twitter.

Ben Affleck was originally cast as Batman/Bruce Wayne back in 2016 for the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice films which Zack Snyder helmed. Affleck went on to star in Justice League and Zack Snyder’s Justice League cut version. He also appeared in Suicide Squad and is set to reprise his role in both Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and The Flash

One hardcore fan, whose Twitter account is dedicated to fans of Batfleck and his unannounced film, posted a behind-the-scenes image that Zack Snyder originally shared. They accompanied the image with the caption, “He’s our Batman too @ZackSnyder!!” The fan account must not like Robert Pattinson’s version of the character very much.

Another fan has an actual reason they want Ben Affleck to return to the character as Zack Snyder left a few plot threads unresolved throughout his films, especially regarding what happened to Batman’s Robin in the Snyderverse. This fan shared an image of Robin’s suit from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice that has “HAHAHA Jokes on you BATMAN” spray painted on it. They wrote, “Need to see the backstory to this explored in the Ben Affleck Batman movie!”

The outcry of fans might be tied to a recent tweet by James Gunn himself. A fan asked the DC maestro “Mr. Gunn, do you like Ben Affleck as Batman?” to which Gunn replied, “I do.” Of course, this does not mean you should be celebrating just yet, as it does not mean that Gunn will be making or greenlighting a Ben Affleck solo Batman film.

We do not blame Snyder fans for holding out hope, but it does seem likely that Affleck’s time as the character is drawing to a close, even if Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and The Flash are not canceled. But in the end, only time will tell.
