Barely three months have past since the much-hyped arrival of Fifty Shades of Grey and Universal has whipped up the first teaser for its upcoming sequel, Fifty Shades Darker, which sees a brief clip of series star Jamie Dornan donning a mask intercut with text ramping up excitement for the follow-up.
A little premature, mind you, given that the sequel itself isn’t due to arrive until 2017, but the studio is ensuring the lustful relationship between Christian Grey and Ana Steele remains fresh in the minds of the moviegoing audience. After all, the first intallment is set to release on Blu-Ray in June replete with deleted scenes and the like, so consider this a bite-sized appetizer before the main course.
Fifty Shades Darker is yet to enter production, and considering that the first film’s director, Sam Taylor-Johnson, wants no part to play in this next chapter, it’s clear that the project is still in the very early stages. That being said, we do know that E.L. James’ husband, Niall Leonard, has agreed to pen a script for Darker, and the studio’s Donna Langley has likened the tone of the sequel to that of a thriller.
Though there has been no shortage of drama behind the lens, Universal will be pleased to note that both Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan are locked in for the two sequels despite rumors to the contrary, and filming is due to get underway in Vancouver early next year.
Fifty Shades Darker will slink onto the silver screen in time for February 17, 2017.
