Today we get our first look at Everest, a promising film coming to us from director Baltasar Kormákur (2 Guns). Though the project has a fantastic cast headlining it, the image (seen above) only shows off Jason Clarke. Presumably Josh Brolin, John Hawkes and Jake Gyllenhaal are the men behind him, but it’s only Clarke’s face that we can see.
As one of two competing films about the titular mountain, Everest is arriving in just over a year. It was penned by Mark Medoff and Simon Beaufoy and tells the real-life story of a “doomed expedition to the top of the titular mountain in 1996.” It’s material that will no doubt make for a compelling film and given the fact that Beaufoy wrote 127 Hours, another movie that told a riveting true story, I think Everest is in good hands.
Of course, it also helps that the four men leading the film are all extremely talented actors who are currently doing some of the best work of their careers. I’m particularly excited to see Gyllenhaal here as he’s coming off a career best performance in Prisoners and Everest looks to be another great role for the actor.
Everest opens on February 27th, 2015. Check out the image above and let us know if you’re looking forward to this mountain climbing adventure.
