Arthur Curry Is Looking For A Trident In First Aquaman Clip

We’ve already seen a whole load of footage from the Aquaman movie – too much, if you ask some fans – but with the film’s highly anticipated release now less than three weeks away, Warner Bros. continues to add to the feature’s extensive body of promotional material with the first official clip.

In the final moments of the five-minute Aquaman trailer released in October, Mera tells Arthur Curry that Atlantis has “always had a king [but] now it needs something more…a hero.” Going by this new footage, however, a new king probably wouldn’t hurt either, as Amber Heard’s heroine and Willem Dafoe’s Nuidis Vulko try to convince Arthur to win the hearts and minds of the people by retrieving the Trident of Neptune.

Presumably, this scene is taken from the early parts of the movie, before Jason Momoa’s character has set off on his next big adventure, and by the end of his quest, there’s a good chance that Aquaman will be feeling a lot readier to assume the responsibility of king. But however the character’s first solo movie ends, Momoa has already mentioned that he’s pitched ideas for a sequel to the studio, and if the latest box office projections are anything to go by, then it’s quite possible that the star will get the follow-up he so craves.

Though the review embargo for Aquaman is still over a week away from being lifted, the social media responses have been overwhelmingly encouraging so far, with many earlier viewers going as far as to call James Wan’s film the DCEU’s best entry to date. We’ll find out if the hype is real when the film hits theaters on December 21st.
