Unlike most other horror threequels, Jeepers Creepers 3 bucks tradition by situating its story between the events of Jeepers Creepers 1 and 2, and though it’s taken an awful long time to take flight, Victor Salva’s nightmarish vision is about to slither onto the silver screen.
But what of the franchise’s future? A Jeepers Creepers 4 has already been pitched before, when it was revealed back in May that Salva had been quietly plotting a new continuation in the Creeper saga. That’s something that series mainstay Jonathan Breck (The Creeper) echoed during an exhaustive interview with IGN, one that touched on everything from make-up and prosthetics to Salva’s criminal record. For the record: Breck is firmly of the belief that the contentious filmmaker deserves a second chance.
As for a potential fourth film, it’s not off the table:
Yeah, if we’re lucky enough to have it happen. I don’t know that there’s a script written yet for Four. I know that we had a script for a long time for Three. You’re probably familiar with the name Cathedral. Cathedral got broken up into a TV series. So he re-wrote three to be what you’re going to see on-screen on Tuesday night. But he still has Cathedral, which is written out into the first season of a TV show and it’s amazing. So that’s already written and ready to go and there’s a good possibility that a TV will be spawned from this movie. But beyond that he’s already working on the script for Four and that’s really going to get interesting because we have to go a whole new direction and deal with a whole new 23 days, right? So we’re either going to go forward or we’re going to back, or we’re going to go some combination of both.
Hopping between two timelines is certainly an ambitious direction for Jeepers Creepers 4 to take, though surely the chances of Victor Salva reuniting the gang for another horror flick hinge on the potential success of JC3. And that is proving to be a difficult butterfly to pin.
Either way, with Jonathan Breck’s winged abomination ready to begin its harvest, Jeepers Creepers 3 has tapped a human cast comprised of Haugh (Addison Brandon), Stan Shaw (Sheriff Dan Tashtego), Joyce Giraud (Deputy Dana Lang), Jordan Salloum (Kenny Brandon), Tamsin Sparks (Terra Bowers), Ryan Moore (Kirk Mathers), Brandon Smith (Sergeant Davis Tubbs), Gina Philips (Trish Jenner) and Christine Ko as Kiya Wong.
It’ll screen via select theaters tonight, September 26th, before a limited release on October 4th. Tell us, will you be venturing out to support Salva’s latest creative effort? Drop your thoughts in the usual place.
