Jeremy Renner Asks Sony To Return Spider-Man To The MCU

Spider-Man fans are up in arms over the shocking news that a stalemate between Sony and Disney has resulted in the termination of the web-slinger's time in the MCU. It's expected that Tom Holland's tenure as Peter Parker will continue in more solo films, but don't expect to see him meeting the Avengers again anytime soon. Obviously, the announcement is not going down well online and one of those hitting back at the news is Hawkeye himself, Jeremy Renner.

The actor recently took to Instagram to share a snap of Clint Barton from Avengers: Endgame, with his caption addressing the current Spidey debacle. “Hey @sonypictures we want Spider-Man back to @therealstanlee and @marvel please, thank you,” the star wrote, along with a crossbow emoji and a bunch of hashtags including #spidermanrocks. At the time of writing, the post’s accrued over 1.3 million likes.

The Hawkeye actor’s reaction mirrors just about every Marvel fans’ thoughts online, with Sony taking a real hit following the news. The company’s stock has even gone down since the dissolution of their Disney deal. However, it actually seems like it was the Mouse House’s call to remove Spidey from the MCU when Sony didn’t agree to give them half the profits of future Spider-Man movies. There’s reportedly a chance, though, that discussions could be reopened and a new deal reached in time.

Maybe Renner’s so invested in this as he really wants to team up with Spider-Man in the future. Though he’s appeared in a couple of films with Holland, both Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Endgame, Clint and Peter haven’t really shared any screentime. But there’s probably some fun to be had with the pair. After all, Clint’s always been good at taking younger heroes under his wing and he’ll continue that in the Hawkeye Disney Plus show, in which he trains up Kate Bishop.
