The sequel to 2010’s Kick-Ass is just days away from commencing production, and while most of the roles had been filled there were still some question marks left on the roster. Now, though, Screen Rant is confirming that one of those roles, that of ‘The Colonel,’ is being filled by none other than Jim Carrey.
Carrey, who needs no introduction but who it should still be noted starred in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and The Mask, was rumored to be part of the cast, and is now apparently locked in, according to Kick-Ass creator Mark Millar.
For those who don’t know, Colonel Stars is a member of the super-hero-vigilante group called Justice Forever, though he used to be associated with the main villain from the first comic/film adaptation.
This is a film already bursting with talented performers, as the original cast (including Aaron Johnson, Lindsay Fonseca, Chloe Grace Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse) is back alongside newcomers such as Donald Faison and John Leguizamo. The film will be directed by Jeff Wadlow (Never Back Down) with previous director Matthew Vaughn serving as producer.
The change of director gives me pause in my anticipation of Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall, as much of the fun of the last film could rightly be attributed to Vaughn. All the same, I’m excited to see these characters again, especially with Carrey joining them.
