Jim Jarmusch’s Wry Comedy Paterson Recruits Adam Driver

Girls breakout star Adam Driver may be a familiar face thanks to his complex and erratic turn as Kylo Ren in Star War: The Force Awakens, but his allegiance to Disney's rejuvenated juggernaut hasn't prevented the actor from committing to roles outside of the galactic space opera. Case in point: Deadline brings word that Driver has sealed a deal to star in Jim Jarmusch's (Only Lovers Left Alive, Stranger Than Paradise) upcoming wry comedy, Paterson.

Girls breakout star Adam Driver may be a familiar face thanks to his complex and erratic turn as Kylo Ren in Star War: The Force Awakens, but his allegiance to Disney’s rejuvenated juggernaut hasn’t prevented the actor from committing to roles outside of the galactic space opera. Case in point: Deadline brings word that Driver has sealed a deal to star in Jim Jarmusch’s (Only Lovers Left Alive, Stranger Than Paradise) upcoming wry comedy, Paterson.

Joining a cast that already comprises Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani (Body Of Lies), the outlet notes that Jarmusch’s latest foray behind the camera is in the works over at Amazon Studios, with K5 International lending financial support. Similarly to Spike Lee’s button-pressing Chi-Raq, word is that Paterson will eventually get a theatrical release soon before it appears on the company’s Prime streaming platform. In fact, a representative from K5 assured budding fans that the film would receive “huge theatrical support.”

“Amazon’s support for Jim and the film shows not just a true dedication to great filmmaking talent but also their commitment to give the film huge theatrical support to enable Paterson to reach the widest possible audience,” said K5 partner and head of sales Carl Clifton.

There’s little-to-no information regarding the actual story driving Paterson, though we do know that Oliver Simon and Daniel Baur will produce on behalf K5 International alongside Joshua Astrachan of Animal Kingdom and Carter Logan under the Inkjet banner.

Paterson is expected to enter production in mid 2016. As for Adam Driver, his résumé continues its exponential growth in the wake of The Force Awakens, with upcoming roles in Martin Scorsese’s Silence and, soon, Jeff Nichols’ Midnight Special which is a lock for SXSW 2016.
