Cameras are set to roll next week on Joe Wright’s upcoming Peter Pan origin story Pan, and today, the director has rounded out his cast. Empire is reporting that Amanda Seyfried will be stepping into the role of Mary, alongside several other new additions to the line-up. The full list includes: Nonso Anozie, Kathy Burke, Jack Charles, Taejoo Na, Kurt Egyiawan, Lewis MacDougall and Leni Zieglmeier.
That group of actors will join the already-announced Hugh Jackman as Blackbeard, Garrett Hedlund as Hook, Rooney Mara as Tiger Lily, Adeel Akhtar as Smee, and Levi Miller as the titular hero. In an interesting twist on the story we all know, the film will explore Peter’s “earliest encounters with some of the characters in Neverland.” Among those he befriends are Captain Hook, who would, of course, go on to become his nemesis.
With a cast that boasts names like Jackman, Hedlund, Mara and now Seyfriend, the potential is definitely there for an exciting re-imagining of a classic tale. Whether it all comes together or not in the end though is another question entirely. We’ve seen many films in recent years that have attempted to re-imagine a popular story and for the most part, none of them have been very good. Still, studios are intent on heading down this road and with Maleficent hitting theatres next month, and Pan and two different versions of The Jungle Book now in development, it seems like there will be no shortage of updated versions of your favorite childhood stories.
Pan will land in theatres on July 17th, 2015. Are you pleased with the final cast that’s been set for the film? Sound off below!
