Few actors have experienced as meteoric a rise to fame as John Boyega, who broke out in the Joe Cornish-directed Attack the Block and promptly landed the lead role in Star Wars: Episode VII. And now, Boyega is taking full advantage of his red-hot status in Hollywood by teasing us with the possibility that he could be joining a very different but also beloved franchise.
Yesterday, the actor tweeted out two surprising thoughts when questioned about whether he was in contention for a Marvel role – specifically that of fan favorite hero the Black Panther, who served as the ruler of advanced African nation Wakanda in the comics. Boyega’s tweets read as follows:
Marvel role? ….hehehe … I’m dam right aiming for it

Currently booking flight to wakanda

Is this wishful thinking on Boyega’s part, or an indicator of actual talks with Marvel? I’m leaning towards the former, but Boyega is so in-demand right now that I’d frankly be surprised if his name hadn’t emerged over at Marvel. The studio recently dated five unknown titles through 2019, and one of the heroes many fans have clamored for Marvel to introduce has long been Black Panther. Perhaps he’ll finally be getting his own movie in Phase Three, which is already set to include Ant-Man, Captain America 3 and Doctor Strange.
What’s the evidence against Black Panther? There’s not much standing in the way of Marvel ordering this movie, unless the studio opts to lean on sequels like Thor 3, Iron Man 4 and Guardians of the Galaxy 2. A Black Widow spinoff might also cause the studio to hold off on heading to Wakanda just yet.
We’ll keep you posted as more on a potential Black Panther movie emerges, but what do you think of Boyega in the role? Would he be a good fit, or is the talented actor too young for the part? Let us know below!
