Fast and Furious 9 is shaping up to be a major blockbuster event, cast included. Though the franchise’s latest is losing Dwayne Johnson – not entirely, mind you; you’ll be able to see him drive around recklessly next month in Hobbs & Shaw – recent additions like Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren, as well as the official return of fan favorite Michelle Rodriguez ensure that the film’ll have no problem running on star power.
And that’s all without mentioning John Cena.
Yes, it seems that the road-race franchise shares an “out with the old, in with the new” philosophy with its WWE cast members, as Cena’s slated to make his first appearance in the ninth action-packed addition to the series. But in the month since we first heard this news, there really hasn’t been much else floating around about him or his role.
That is, until the cast posed together for a celebratory photo late last week. On Friday, the group, which included icon Vin Diesel and director Justin Lin, gathered around to celebrate Rodriguez’s birthday. And the ensuing picture, which you can check out below, was promptly posted to the series’ Instagram page.
So there you have it: your first look at the Dr. of Thuganomics in Fast and Furious 9. And what do you know? He fits right in!
As for his character, again, we really don’t know too much, other than the fact that he’s playing “a badass” (duh). Since Cena’s in the photo with this particular crew, we can assume he’ll be putting his badassery to good use for Dom Toretto and the rest of his team.
But before we wrap up, we’d like to know your thoughts. Are you excited for Cena’s role in Fast and Furious 9? Or do you think the attitude adjuster will be playing a heel?
