The short-list for the lead in Guardians Of The Galaxy has become anything but short in recent weeks with what seems like an endless stream of actors auditioning for the role. Earlier this week we reported that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was in the running for the lead. Now, another actor can be added to the rapidly growing list of candidates: John Krasinski.
The role being discussed is Peter Quill, who becomes Star-Lord and is the leader of the Guardians. So far it seems like Marvel wants to cast Quill first and then build a supporting cast of heroes around him. In addition to Gordon-Levitt and Krasinski, the current list of actors being considered includes Joel Edgerton, Jack Huston, Jim Sturgess, Lee Pace, Eddie Redmayne, Garrett Hedlund, James Marsden, Sullivan Stapleton, and Zachary Levi.
Moviehole also reported that a former DC actor auditioned for the role. Check out that tweet below.
Hearing – from someone that recently worked with him – a former Superman may have tested for “Guardians of the Galaxy”, too. Huge shortlist!

If true, that means that either Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) or Tom Welling (Smallville) read for the role.
As for Krasinski, he has been discussed for superhero roles before, mainly that of Captain America, which didn’t go over well with fans. Possibly, some people still struggle to see the “good-guy” from The Office in any kind of action role, but I think Krasinski definitely has the talent to branch out to something more intense.
It’s likely that a lot of decisions will be made in the near future in terms of casting, so be sure to check back for more Guardians Of The Galaxy news, which we’ll report as it comes in.
