After a break from filming following a set injury, Johnny Depp is back in the thick of it. Production on the fifth swashbuckling Disney adventure, Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, has resumed this week and to commemorate the star’s return, producer Jerry Bruckheimer has posted a new image of him to Twitter:

For a movie that’s not due to arrive in theaters for another TWO years, this tease has only one purpose: To remind us that the film exists. And while the advent of pre-release marketing is certainly stepping up its game across all studios, it’s not exactly a revelatory image. Depp tied up by a couple of swarthy-looking seafarers could easily be a screengrab from any of the previous outings. But does that small quibble even matter when this fun Tweet is only intended to stir early anticipation?

Directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg and co-starring Kaya Scodelario, Brenton Thwaites, Golshifteh Farahani, Geoffrey Rush, Kevin McNally and Stephen Graham, Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales opens on July 7, 2017.

Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea…including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.
