So first Robert Downey Jr. leaves Gravity, and now we get news that he is leaving Oz The Great And Powerful. Apparently Mr. Downey Jr.’s busy schedule doesn’t have room for the film. But, with production on sets and effects already underway, the studio needs a replacement, and fast. Who can replace Downey Jr. though? Looks like the answer may be Johnny Depp and I personally think he could do well in the role. The film, which sounds very interesting, is directed by Sam Raimi and is a prequel to The Wizard of Oz.
Downey Jr. is currently hard at work on The Avengers but he also has numerous other projects that he’s attached to. Inherent Vice, Yucatan, How To Talk To Girls, Iron Man 3, etc. The guy has a ton of options. As for Depp, he has Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows and possibly Kathryn Bigelow’s Triple Frontier. He also has The Lone Ranger, which like Oz The Great and Powerful, is set up at Disney. Oh ya, and then there are those little movies called Pirates of the Caribbean that you may have heard of. And who says actors have an easy life?
So whether Depp officially signs on is yet to be seen but one thing is for sure, we’ll keep you updated on any new information.
