New Joker Set Pics Give Us Our Best Look Yet At The Clown Prince Of Crime

Though we’ve yet to get a lot of plot details on next year’s Joker movie, we are starting to get a pretty good idea of what Joaquin Phoenix’s particular take on the Clown Prince of Crime will be like – and seeing how this film's being promoted primarily as a character study, perhaps that’s more important than any story elements.

A set video released last month already showed us a crowded subway scene where a fully made-up Arthur Fleck casually strolls away from the chaos unfolding around him. Now, this new batch of pics indicates a similar series of events, as Phoenix is seen walking away from an off-camera crime scene while police officers run down the hall in the opposite direction, paying little mind to the man in the clown costume who’s presumably responsible for the trouble.

Interestingly, a couple of these images seem to show a police officer falling on his back behind Arthur, suggesting that the famed Batman villain may have even been bold enough to trip the guy up. But whatever it is that the Joker’s just done, he chooses to celebrate his feat with a post-crime smoke.

This habit of casually strolling away from the confusion is highly reminiscent of Heath Ledger’s celebrated rendition of the Joker in The Dark Knight, though other footage indicates that the character isn’t too afraid of the spotlight, either. One recent clip, for example, shows Phoenix proudly bowing to a crowd, who seem to have become big fans of this mischief-maker. From an aspiring comedian, perhaps it only figures that he’d savor the attention of an audience.

We’ll see what problems Arthur has caused for the police of Gotham City when Joker arrives on October 4th, 2019.
