Juno Temple And Jesse Plemons Could Join Johnny Depp In Black Mass

Scott Cooper's Black Mass is really starting to heat up now. With Johnny Depp already set for the starring role in the Whitey Bulger biopic, and Joel Edgerton, Guy Pearce and Dakota Johnson all on board to support him, the cast is shaping up very well. Now, THR is reporting that two young talents are being considered for parts in the film: Jesse Plemons and Juno Temple.

Scott Cooper’s Black Mass is really starting to heat up now.

While neither are household names just yet. both have seen significant bumps in their fame over the last couple of years and are slowly making their way up towards Hollywood’s A-List. Plemons has been heavily rumored for Star Wars: Episode VII and Temple will next be seen in two very high-profile films that will be arriving this summer (Maleficent and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For).

In regards to Black Mass, Plemons is wanted for the role of a “tough guy in Whitey’s inner circle” and Temple would be playing a prostitute who presumably has ties to Bulger.

Based on the New York Times bestseller of the same name, the film will tell the story of the famous Boston mobster who was on the FBI’s Top 10 Most Wanted list for quite a long time. He eventually became an informant but ultimately ended up being incarcerated and now spends his time at the United States Penitentiary in Tucson, Arizona, where he is serving two life terms.

With a stellar cast and some compelling source material, all signs point to Black Mass being a winner. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a really great gangster film and I’m hopeful that Cooper’s upcoming effort will fill that void. Or, at the very least, I hope that it’s a lot better than some of the more recent entries into the genre, like Gangster Squad and Public Enemies.
